The Rochester-Bern EMBA program (Executive Master of Business and Administration) allows participants to advance their own careers. It is currently the only EMBA course in Switzerland with a dual degree – one from the University of Bern and one from the University of Rochester (USA). Claus Michael Sattler will add the regression course of the renowned economics professor Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedders with practical examples from his professional environment. Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedders is Professor of Finance at the IMD International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. His research and teaching focuses on sustainability and the economics of climate change. As such, he is able to provide key insights into the transition risks arising from the shift to a greener economy and to help companies address the challenges of potential asset depreciation and rising carbon prices.
Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedders says that finance and economics offer many tools to combat climate change and that the power of incentives and markets can be harnessed to make progress. Additionally, businesses and consumers need to take the lead in finding solutions to the climate crisis, not just waiting for governments and policymakers to take action to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
Due to his specialist knowledge of mathematical methods in finance, Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedders is able to apply numerical solution techniques to complex economic and financial models and shed light on a range of current market issues and industry issues facing companies. He was head of the custom IMD program for Malaysian bank Maybank and has worked with a number of clients including ABB, Airbus, Eneva, Evonik, Orkla and Julius Baer.
Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedders is also the leader of IMD’s new online certification course for structured investment products in cooperation with the Swiss company Leonteq, teaches in the Advanced Management Concepts (AMC) and Executive MBA programs and is a consultant for international consulting projects in the MBA program.
He has published numerous research articles in international journals such as Econmetrica, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Management Science and Operations Research.
Before he came to IMD in 2019, Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedders Professor of Quantitative Business Administration at the University of Zurich and Associate Professor of Business Administration and Decision Sciences at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He received his PhD from Stanford University and has received multiple teaching awards from both Stanford and Kellogg.
In addition to his activities at the IMD, Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedders Visiting Professor for Executive MBA Education at the Kellogg School of Management and is a board member of the Swiss companies LPX Group and SYLVA AG. He is also a member of the Game Theory Society and a SAET Economic Theory Fellow.
Claus Michael Sattler will be a guest lecturer in the Rochester-Bern EMBA program with his lecture “How to transfer BigData and Data Analytics into data-supported management decisions!” – in the original: “How to move BigData and Data Analytics into data-supported Management Decisions!” – that of Prof. Dr. Karl Schmedder’s theoretical knowledge with examples from his worldwide assignments as an interim CIO, interim CTO and / or interim CDO and make it more vivid.
In doing so, Claus Michael Sattler will draw on projects from Formula 1, the pharmaceutical and food-producing industries, and logistics. Claus Michael Sattler’s special topics are to use the technologies of the data warehouse, data lake, data virtualization, enterprise data fabric and smart data fabric in connection with AI artificial intelligence in such a way that data-supported management decisions on real-time data become possible.
